Turn Around Tuesday

“Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.” – Eleanor Roosevelt (First Lady, 1884 – 1962)

august262005_003.jpg I don’t mind telling you that things have been a little stressed for a while. Some factors are wonderful while others are not so great. Isn’t it nice to know we all feel that way sometimes?

At one of the peak stress moments, I received a gift in the mail with a card attached that has this week’s quote on it. The gift was wonderful, but the gem was the card. I would not be exaggerating if I told you I was instantly energized and felt newly confident. I appreciate my friend more than she knows and cherish her footprints.

So today, on this Tuesday Monday, in order to battle stress and make a great day, I encourage footprints and the acknowledgement of footprints.

Take the next five minutes – we all have five minutes – and contact two people.

  1. Be a footprint leaver. Now, I know we don’t have any idea when, where, or how we leave all our footprints. But, we all know when we’ve been good to another person.
  2. Be a footprint appreciater. You already know who this person is – you’ve been thinking about them this whole time. Tell them.

Spreading goodwill and expressing gratitude can be two of the greatest ways to overcome Tuesday Mondays – or any other day that feels like it is!

L – Loyal and Lazy

lblock.jpgI am fortunate to have some awesome people in my life.  They are people I trust to do the right thing.  I know their character.  I understand their values.  I appreciate the way they treat others.  I am humbled by the way they treat me.

To these people, I am intensely loyal.  This is not a testament to my character, but to the character of those whom I have placed my trust.  I do not walk on loyalty’s surface but dive deep into her chasms.  They have my open honesty and my commitment to always keep their best interests in the top of my head.

lblock2.jpgI appreciate the people who don’t believe me to be lazy. Honestly, it is a trait I battle with.  Especially when the Law and Order  marathon is on.  There are few things that appeal to me more than a couch, a remote, and a blanket. Granted, I don’t succumb to that desire (too often), but that doesn’t mean I am not lazy.  It just means I am practiced in going against the grain when it is the right thing to do.

Understanding Both is Important

Lazy can kill loyal.  Loyalty requires effort and dedication.  It demands priority and consideration.  In order to be loyal to those I have committed to, action is required.  It is not a passive process.  If I allow my lazy tendencies to take hold, the demonstration of my loyalty is diminished.

Pros and Cons – The L,M,N,O,P’s of Me

Alright, maybe I shouldn’t call them cons – but I am talking about myself so I will.  I don’t have a problem talking about the things that need to be improved upon in my life. Anymore, that is.  It wasn’t always that way.  Discussions such as this triggered defense mechanisms that included everything from passive aggressive behaviors to all out manipulation.

However, personal inventory is something I do on a regular basis now.  I even enjoy it.  I get excited at the possibility of finding that weak link and developing ideas to strengthen it up.

blocks1.jpgI have often seen the practice of going through the alphabet to facilitate this process.  I always thought it was a cute idea.  Until I saw Patti Digh of 37 Days  doing it – then I realized it was brilliant and could be beautiful, creative, and productive.  Those characteristics usually put me all in and this is no exception.  Her personal inventory is insightful and inspiring.  I hope she starts all over when she is finished!

When going through these kinds of things, one must decide what format works best for them.  I am a SWOT girl myself (Michele Martin does an excellent job of outlining this process), so I need to know about strengths and weaknesses and how I can leverage both.  And I won’t do it in consecutive posts because I need more time to process the information.

I am also looking for ways to be unconventional (April is such the rebel), so I don’t want to start with “A”.

So, I am

  • starting with “L” because I can
  • moving through at my own pace because I think that’s important
  • giving two traits because recognizing both what works and what could work better is crucial
  • inviting you to come along with me

At this point, I want to tag folks so bad!  There are some people that I learn so much from and just know their involvement would phenom…but I resist.  But I am hoping real hard!

Let’s get started…
